Mom's birthday was yesterday and it was so fun to be here in Texas with her for her 60th. We were almost all together for it and it was the best day. Cara and I got up and made her breakfast in bed. Then later we had a mini triathlon for all the kids, with an awesome warm up by Ryan and then a .5 mile run, 1 mile scooter and 5 laps in the pool. We had numbers on their arms and "Eye of the Tiger" for warm up, a water station and adults cheering them on along the way. There was 15 of then and they did a GREAT job.
WE split the kids up and had babysitters at Carl and Court's and Mom and Dad's and all of us adults went to Dallas' best Mexican restaurant (Anna Mia's) and did a little shopping with mom. We all congregated at C&C's later and Tara had planned this amazing Mediterranean meal which we all prepared and ate together. Delish! We had "I Love You's" which had mom sitting in the middle of us while we took turns telling her why we love her (the grandkids had some cute comments) which is always such a feel good experience. She opened her presents--including the "Peggy 6.0" book all of us kids/spouses and dad put together for her. 60 pictures, 60 of momisms, and 60 memories of her all in a photobook. It was fun to do and I am so glad she'll have it. She is such an amazing woman! And of course what would a Haynie birthday party be without the birthday girl getting thrown into the pool. (She was the originator of it anyway--well the Mortensens) And of course, once one gets thrown in, it all went nuts. 30 minutes later--alot of struggling and laughing and the entire house of people were in the pool swimming in their clothes including all the grandkids. We swam for awhile and it was such a perfect ending to mom's birthday. I'll add pictures once we get home to NH.

The entire trip to Texas whenever things were getting a little too boring for the kids--Ryan would pull a Todd Hammond and say, "LLLLLOOOOOOKKKKK at all those {fill in the blank with whatever the first thing Ryan sees outside}" and evertime Blake would say "DAD!!!!! NO WAY!!!!" in thee CUTEST voice. Oh how we love that cute little voice of his.
And the other day Karen (grandma) took us to see the Saturn V space rocket and had made the whole experience into a teaching/learning experience with the kids (And she is a WONDERFUL teacher of anything). The kids were hungry and Karen told them she'd give them a marshmellow when they told her something new they'd learned. Hallie immediately runs over exclaiming "I have learned today that rockets really ARE real."

The time is now
Yesterday the kids spent $12 each of their hard earned money (we do the box with 3 slots "spending", "savings" and "tithing" and sit with them every week when they earn their job money and help them separate into the right slots:) to buy a beyblade. They love the cartoon and once they found out they could buy one to play on their own, they were giddy and talked of nothing else all day. It made me think back on the things that we "got into" as kids--cabbage patch, pound puppies, garbage pail kids, etc
As I type I can hear them out in the living room yelling "1-2-3, let it rip!" as they battle all over the place.
Anyway, it made me want to document some of the things that they are doing or loving right now so that they will be able to look back and reminisce in 25 years.
Aubrie-
Just yesterday finished Harry Potter book #7 for the second round of reading the books. She is a voracious reader. The kids ask her all the time to "please stop reading and talk/play/listen to me". She enjoyed them very much. She has her wand (a broken bow) and has taught the other kids all the spells. She watched movie #1 last weekend with Ryan and I. Aubrie loves books about animals (especially dogs/wolves/horses). She always gets 1/2 fiction, 1/2 nonfiction at the library. She just finished soccer and tennis and really liked both of them. She likes to wear shorts/tshirt (very simple) and her keens or sandals everyday--no deviating from that. Hair is ALWAYS in a ponytail and she wouldn't let me touch her hair with a curling iron if I paid her. She is a really strong swimmer.
Robbie-
He loves playing sports. It is probably the thing he most gets excited about. He just finished soccer and baseball and he'd have his things on or set out ready to go long before we needed to leave. Both were on Thursday and he really looked forward to Thursdays. He likes to play with his monster trucks/motorcycles and often asks to watch monster truck/car videos on Youtube with Blake. He is constantly hungry. I think he literally could eat every hour. He likes to make people laugh. I think he was kind of the funny man in his 1st grade class and he is always clowning around trying to make kids laugh here at home. He loves to tease--especially Hallie, but anyone will do. He likes to read X-men/Marvel hero books and has read the entire section in the children's library on motorcross/snowmobiling/monster trucks, etc.
Hallie-
Hallie, being the 3rd child, tags a long with a lot of A&R's things they like to do--so she plays "monster truck rally, and harry potter" a fair amount. and she likes it. She also really likes my little ponies and loves to have animals and her ponies/fairies/princesses and pretend different scenarios and stories. Probably her very favorite thing to do right now is to color. She asks every day to print out a picture and uses tracing paper to copy pictures out of books to color. She has stacks of pictures downstairs on our craft table. She loves to wear skirts and her yellow sandals. Whenever someone else gets in trouble, Hallie is quick to jump in and point out that she didn't do "xyz" and come give me a hug and it puts R&A in a tizzy everytime. Hallie loves the tramp, as do the other 3. She cannot WAIT to start school in the fall. She just finished swim lessons again and finally really got it this past session and this past week she went down the "big" waterslide at our town pool and swam to the side all by herself.
Blake-
He loves cars/cycermos(motorcycles)/monster trucks. He always has 3-4 in his hands as he's walking around and then puts them down plays for 10 minutes and he's off to the next place. He loves any books at nap/bedtime. He asks to watch Cars on my phone way too often. It's the only show he wants to watch. He doesn't want to wear any shoes unless they are his flipflops. He isn't our most brave of eaters, but he will get it eventually. He loves pretzels--its his favorite snack.
